Scientists say no metabolic difference between sugar and high fructose corn syrup

A new report compiles extensive research to make the claim.

March 15, 2013

An article published in Advances in Nutrition found no significant metabolic difference between individuals consuming high fructose corn syrup or sucrose. The article relies on an extensive review of available high fructose corn syrup, sucrose and fructose research. It concludes that high fructose corn syrup is nutritionally equivalent to other sugar, and that the body metabolizes it the same way. The article says randomized clinical trials showed no adverse affects on cholesterol when consuming sweeteners made from all three types of sugar in moderation.
