June 15, 2016

Good weather and expanding businesses allowed maple syrup production to hit record numbers in the US and Canada this year.

The US produced 4.2 gallons of the sweet stuff in 2016, according to USDA statistics. Vermont was the country’s biggest producer, accounting for 1.99 million gallons. New York, the second largest producer, yielded 707,000 gallons.

Canada, the world’s leading supplier, recorded 13.5 million gallons of syrup, up 23 percent from the previous record set in 2013, according to the Associated Press.
