Regulatory Watch: Vigilance raised on bioterrorism, food safety
Joseph Levitt, director of the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, said his agency will continue to emphasize food safety, food additives, dietary supplements and food biotechnology. In a letter to the FDA food community, Levitt also said BSE prevention, StarLink corn, and food allergens would continue to receive close attention, as will issues involving bioterrorism. “The tragic events on September 11 have, regrettably, raised our collective awareness as to the importance of this issue. I want to assure our stakeholders that, since September 11, we have been actively engaged on a continuous basis to increase our vigilance and preparedness,” Levitt said.
