Regulatory Watch: Failure to communicate
In an appearance before Congress, USDA’s Office of Inspector General has rapped the agency for not effectively communicating. Specifically, USDA was sited for shortcomings in its efforts to block meat imports from countries where foot and mouth disease is present. Acting Inspector General Joyce Fleisch-man testified before the House Appropriations Subcommittee, saying USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service and its Food Safety and Inspection Service did not always work well together to meet their common goals.
