For traction and industrial applications, Switched Reluctance (SR) motors and drives from LeTourneau eliminate the coils on the moving parts of the motor, have no requirement for commutator or brush maintenance and can deliver full-rated torque at low-speed operation. The SR motor uses magnetic attraction to produce torque on the rotor of the motor. The SR rotor has no magnets or winding, but is a piece of shaped iron, offering an arrangement of diametrically opposite poles and inter-pole gaps.
