Just Label It urges Congress to remove biotech rider from Agriculture Appropriations Bill
Provision would grant temporary permits to farmers of genetically engineered foods

Just Label It, an advocacy group for the labeling of genetically engineered (GE) foods is urging the United States Congress to remove a biotech rider from the 2013 Appropriations Bill. The group claims that section 733 of the bill would force the Secretary of Agriculture to grant a permit for cultivation of a GE crop even if a judge has ordered an Environmental Impact Statement. Just Label It says such a measure would block judicial review of USDA’s decision to allow commercialization of GE crops. The bill was introduced on June 20, 2012 but has not yet been passed by either the House or the Senate.
