Parmalat Canada Inc. was fined $100,000 under Canada’s Occupational Health and Safety Act after a worker received first and second degree burns while checking a pipe system. An investigation by Canada’s Ministry of Labour found there was no need for the water in the pipes to be hot while undergoing maintenance. Parmalat pleaded guilty for failing to take the reasonable precaution of ensuring that any remaining water was not hot.
