Public health and nutrition scientists meeting under the auspices of the International Obesity Task Force and International Union of Nutritional Sciences in Bellagio, Italy have urged world governments to do more to encourage healthy food policies.
The Bellagio Declaration asks governments to pursue measures such as taxes on unhealthy beverages, improve front-of-pack nutritional labeling and regulations on food marketing to children in the face of pushback from large food and beverage companies. The group says the obesity epidemic is rapidly overtaking undernutrition as the dominant world food problem, even in developing countries. You can read the declaration here (pdf).
