Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has allocated $5 million under the 2014 Farm Bill to support 19 National Clean Plant Network projects. The money will go to producers developing and propagating pest-free fruit trees, grapes, hops, berries, citrus, roses and sweet potatoes. The purpose of the funds is to help producers make sure their products are free of plant pathogens and pests that can otherwise cause economic losses to the American specialty crop industry, which includes fruits, vegetables and other crops.
