The US House of Representatives approved the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act by a vote of 275 to 150 and moved the legislation to the Senate. The measure would establish a single, unified standard for food to be labeled “GMO free,” preempting various state laws.
“A federal approach to food labeling remains the only way to ensure Americans everywhere can access accurate information about the food they purchase,” says Pamela Bailey, president and CEO of the Grocery Manufacturers Association.
