WHO cancer report should not be misinterpreted
The North American Meat Institute (NAMI) is urging government policymakers not misinterpret information in the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) report on processed meat and cancer, which was issued last month. NAMI points to a clarifying statement from the World Health Organization, which states in part, “The latest IARC review does not ask people to stop eating processed meats.” According to NAMI, that’s because the review was not a risk assessment but a hazard assessment.
