GNP Company has issued a recall for more than 55,000 pounds of chicken because the products may be contaminated with foreign materials.
The recalled products were sold under the Gold’n Plump and Just BARE brands and shipped for use in food service and institutional outlets. One item, 4-pound poly-bags of Just BARE whole chicken, was sold at grocery stores.
According to the company, the recall is linked to an isolated product tampering incident that occurred at its Cold Spring, MN processing plant earlier this month where the company says it found foreign material in some of its chicken products. Lab tests revealed the material to be natural materials including black soil and sand. Law enforcement authorities are currently investigating the case.
GNP says safety is its number one core value and first priority and is working to collect all recalled products.
No illnesses have been reported.
