Reporting increased capacity around the world, the International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses (IARW) released its annual Global Top 25 List of the largest temperature-controlled warehousing and logistics providers in the world.
The association also compiled separate lists of the largest operators in North America, Latin America, Europe and the Caribbean, a testament to the strength of the global cold chain industry. According to IARW, its members currently own or operate 4.96 billion cubic feet—a 4.88 percent increase since last year’s report.
The Global Top 25 currently operate 3.86 billion cubic feet—an 8.13 percent increase from 2015. Americold Logistics ranked first on the list, with a total volume of 992 million cubic feet. Rounding out the top five are Lineage Logistics, Swire Group, Preferred Freezer Services and AGRO Merchants Group, LLC. The North American Top 25 operate 3.03 billion cubic feet—an 8.15 percent increase from 2015. The European Top 10 operate 568.72 million cubic feet, and the Latin American Top 20 operate 249.3 million cubic feet.
“The increase in capacity reflects continued consolidation and growth of the global cold chain industry,” says Corey Rosenbusch, IARW president and CEO. “As our members expand into non-traditional sectors such as fresh and customized supply chain services, capacity will steadily increase.”
