The USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has announced a correction to the economic analysis presented in the final rule amending regulations governing the importation and interstate movement of fruits and vegetables.
The rule (83 FR 46627-46639, Docket No. APHIS-2010-0082), published Sept. 14, 2018, reported an incorrect cost savings figure in the summary. The corrected language reads as follows:
“Interpreting these gains as cost savings accrued by using the quicker notice-based process rather than having to wait for rule promulgation, and in accordance with guidance on complying with Executive Order 13771, the primary annualized cost savings estimate for this rule is $7,895,000. This value is the midpoint estimate of cost savings annualized in perpetuity using a 7 percent discount rate.”
