Ring Container Technologies has a new barrier for plastic containers that it says keeps more oxygen away from food and uses less material than competitors.
BarrierGuard OxygenSmart could be used for oxygen-sensitive products, including tomato sauces, nuts, oils, baby foods, instant coffee and vegetables. It provides a shelf life of 24 months and has glass-like clarity.
Initial studies showed that the technology blocked or absorbed up to 30 percent more oxygen versus competitive barriers and used 2.5 times less barrier material on average, the company says.
The Tennessee-based business produces bottles with the barrier technology at the plant it opened in October in Louisville, Ky.
