New poultry producer Pure Prairie Farms has completed the purchase of a former Simply Essentials chicken processing plant in Charles City, Iowa. The plant, which previously closed in August of 2019, is a state-of-the-art retail tray-packaging facility and features air-chill technology. The plant is scheduled to be fully operational by spring of 2022.
Pulmuone, one of the largest tofu companies in the world, announced a 100,000-square-foot expansion at its Fullerton, California, facility that doubles tofu production capabilities and creates 110 new jobs.

Scheduled to break ground in spring 2022, the 500,000-square-foot Cattlemen’s Heritage beef-harvesting plant, to be located in northern Mills County just south of Council Bluffs, will harvest 1,500 head per day and employ up to 750 people.
Planterra Foods has opened a new manufacturing plant in Denver. The 189,000-square-foot facility will increase Planterra’s production capabilities, offering opportunities to expand the brand to more consumers and retailers and provide 200 jobs in the Denver community.
The J.M. Smucker Co. is investing $1.1 billion to build a new manufacturing facility and distribution center in McCalla, Alabama, dedicated to production of Smucker’s Uncrustables sandwiches. Construction of the facility is expected to begin in January 2022, with production planned for 2025.
Tyson Foods is building a $355 million bacon plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky, primarily for the production of Wright Brand and Jimmy Dean retail and foodservice products. The 400,000-square-foot facility is expected to create 450 jobs with production beginning in late 2023.
Ferrero North America, part of the global confectionery company the Ferrero Group, broke ground on a new 70,000-square-foot chocolate processing facility in Bloomington, Illinois. It will be the Ferrero Group's third facility that processes chocolate, and its first outside of Europe. The new plant is set to open in spring 2023.
