According to a new survey commissioned by the Can Manufacturers institute, cans are stocked in 98 percent of US households, with 24 cans in the average pantry. Most popuar are canned vegetables, present in 79 percent of households, followed by beans at 74 percent, broths, cooking stocks and condensed cooking soups at 71 percent, fruits at 67 percent and meats and seafood at 54 percent. Canned corn was the most popular single item. The survey found the average household uses five cans per week.
