USDA announced Healthy Eating on a Budget this week, a new addition to ChooseMyPlate.gov, which aims to inform consumers how to shop healthy while still on a budget.
According to USDA, since consumers want more information about better eating decisions on limited resources, the department’s Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion (CNPP) developed the new website to include easy-to-use and insightful information about planning, shopping and preparing meals.
USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack said though healthy foods are not always the more expensive options; low-income families face time and resources challenges when it comes to serving healthy food.
"This resource not only demonstrates that it is possible to eat healthfully on a budget, but it shows how," said CNPP Deputy Director Jackie Haven. "These new pages complement our existing resources on ChooseMyPlate.gov, allowing consumers to figure out how to improve their nutrition, and how to make it affordable."
