Nostalgia for ‘90s fads has resurrected its latest product, Crystal Pepsi. According to PepsiCo, the iconic clear cola will be available this summer across retail locations beginning July 11 in Canada and Aug. 8 in the US.
“We've always had a special place in our heart for Crystal Pepsi, and there has been a huge groundswell of support to bring it back,” says Stacy Taffet, senior director, marketing, Pepsi.
The company launched the beverage in 1992, but pulled it from shelves in 1994. The decision to revive Crystal Pepsi builds on a continuing trend of companies leveraging consumers’ fond memories of past products to boost sales. This trend has been accelerated by the social media and which gives consumers a platform to share and relive these experiences, often creating wide networks of fans who advocate for the return of some products. After more than a decade off shelves, the Coca-Cola Company brought back Surge in 2014 and General Mills announced the return of French Toast Crunch.
