Johnsonville recalled about 95,000 pounds of jalapeño cheddar smoked sausages that may be contaminated with hard, green plastic.
The ready-to-eat products made March 12 and 13 were shipped to 28 states nationwide, as well as internationally. The company says the recalled items are 14-ounce maroon, vacuum film packages with three pieces of information:
- a best by date listed on the back as 06/09/2019
- UPC code 0-77782-02171-4 under the bar code
- establishment number Est. 34224 inside the USDA mark of inspection
Sausages in recent red, white and blue seasonal packaging are safe to eat, the company says.
One person complained to the company; no injuries or illnesses were reported.
“The plastic found in the single incident was large enough that it could be a choking hazard, so we take no chances when it comes to protecting our consumers’ health and safety,” Johnsonville says in its recall announcement.
People should throw out the sausages or return them for a refund, the USDA says.
