Rastelli Bros. Inc. recalled about 130,000 pounds of raw, organic ground beef that may be contaminated with plastic, the USDA announced.

The vacuum-sealed packages of Nature’s Rancher grass-fed beef were produced Oct. 3 through Oct. 15. The company, doing business Rastelli Foods Group, recalled these 16-oz. packages:

  • Nature's Rancher 100% grass-fed, organic ground beef, 85% lean and 15% fat; with case code 9276, 9283, 9287 or 9288; and use or freeze by dates of 10/24/19, 10/31/19, 11/04/19, 11/07/19 and 11/11/19.
  • Nature's Rancher 100% grass-fed, organic ground beef, 93% lean and 7% fat; with case code 9276, 9283, 9287 or 9288; and use or freeze by dates of 10/24/19, 10/31/19, 11/04/19, 11/07/19 and 11/11/19.

The packages have the establishment number 7877-A inside the USDA mark of inspection. The items went to retailers in Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois and Maryland.

Consumers called the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline to complain about the plastic. And the company in Swedesboro, N.J., received a complaint directly.

At the time of the recall announcement, there were no confirmed reports of anyone getting injured or ill from eating the meat.

People who have the beef should throw it away or return it to the store. Anyone with recall questions may call Mike Kelly, vice president of sales at Rastelli, at 856-803-1100.
