A deadly outbreak of salmonella illnesses traced back to cucumbers imported from Mexico has infected nearly 900 people since the beginning of the outbreak last year.
The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service has revised its guidelines to assist poultry processors in controlling Salmonella and Campylobacter in raw food products.
The outbreaks recorded from 2010 to 2014 were responsible for 11 percent of all foodborne outbreak illnesses, 34 percent of hospitalizations and 56 percent of deaths.
